Commissioned by the British House of Commons, this report provides a background to definitions, prevalence, typology and nature of elder abuse in the UK and discusses some of the regulatory mechanisms that have been put in place to address the issue. Developments include the establishment of a register and formalised registration process for people working with older clients, the introduction of fitness-to-work checks and spot criminal record checks, and the development of a national framework for the maintenance of standards and regular monitoring of facilities providing care to older people. Recommendations for future policy and practice reform are also made.en
