Presents the findings of the 1996, 1998 and 2000 British Crime Survey in relation to alcohol-related violence. The survey examined the extent and nature of alcohol-related violence between 1995 and 1999, the relationship between victim and perpetrator and the relative increase of this form of violence. The report outlines some of the risk factors for alcohol-related violence identified in the course of the research, such as age, unemployment and drinking habits, and provides an analysis of the context in which alcohol-related assaults are most likely to occur. Recommendations for how police and other local agencies might address the issue are provided and it is noted that while the most visible form of alcohol-related violence occurs in the ‘night time economy’ of clubs and bars, alcohol consumption is also strongly associated with a high degree of domestic assaults.en
