dc.description.notes"31 July 2002"<br/ >In 1999, 15-year-old Susan Ann Taylor, who previously reported physical and sexual abuse perpetrated by one of her family members, died at the Swan Valley Nyoongar’ Community in Lockridge, Western Australia. As a consequence, this inquiry was undertaken in 2002 to examine the activities of government agencies, and the causes, prevalence and solutions to Aboriginal family violence and child abuse. The report is divided in five sections. Section 1 describes the methodology and the legislative provisions employed. An overview of family violence and child abuse is presented in the second section. The next section reviews the responses of seven government agencies, including the departments of health, community development, justice, education and indigenous affairs and the Western Australia Police Services. Section 4 refers to the creation of an Implementation Body and new institutions such as a Children’s Commissioner and Deputy Children’s Commissioner (Aboriginal). Finally, the last section contains almost 200 recommendations and findings.en
