This project aims to learn about women’s experiences in the mental health services in Leeds to identify the modifications that would improve the assistance. The design of the UK study is based on the belief that individuals experiencing mental health distress are the best people to detect successful support methods. Women who had experienced mental distress were trained to participate in the research team, and 87 clients of the services were interviewed to obtain the information. Even though the experiences were diverse, they could be summarised in feelings of not being listened to, disrespect and lack of empathy. Another common finding was that almost 75 per cent of the interviewees linked their distress to incidents of domestic violence, sexual abuse and/or sexual assault. Sixteen proposals for change are suggested.en
