dc.description.notes | Provides a comprehensive description of violence against women from a global perspective. Intimate partner abuse is addressed by describing the magnitude of the problem, the dynamics of abuse and women’s responses. Sexual coercion is also discussed and particularly focuses on forced sex in marriage, forced sexual initiation, child sexual abuse and the role of cultural beliefs. The report explores the physical and mental health risks and consequences of abuse, including the impact on women’s reproductive health. Some basic guidelines for health providers and strategies to reduce violence are presented. A literature review of reproductive health programmes that address violence against women is cited, and quantitative data and some of the world organisations’ declarations are also included. | en |
