Includes bibliographic references (p. [37]-44)<br/ >'World report on violence and health' (full report) also available on our Research & Resources database.<br/ >Adopting a public health approach to violence, which recognises and defines violence in its various forms, as a major public health issue, this report summarises the findings of the first World Report on Violence and Health. Part One provides an overview of the nature, prevalence and costs, both economic and social, of violence globally and proposes an ecological model for examining the range of factors contributing to violent behaviour in society. Part Two attempts a more detailed analysis of interpersonal, self-directed and collective forms of violence and the contexts within which they occur, including violence against intimate partners, elderly abuse, child abuse, sexual violence and violence amongst young people. Part Three presents some individual, interpersonal, community and structural strategies for the prevention of violence and identifies some key gaps in service provision, research and evaluation. Part Four outlines recommendations for future action.en
