A comprehensive review of the Australian and international literature on the economic costs of domestic violence. It describes the literature pertinent to the topic; identifies similarities and differences between methodologies used; highlights strengths and limitations of various approaches; and outlines directions for future research. The review also includes studies on the economic costs of other, related social problems, such as child abuse and neglect. Identifies a key challenge in the literature as monetising the intangible costs of pain, fear, suffering and damaged life opportunities and the arguments about whether, in fact, this should be attempted. Defines cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analyses and describes the small number of studies which apply these methodologies to domestic violence programmes. Appendices include summary tables of the Australian and international studies, details of databases searched and search terms.<BR><WEB_URL_ROOT_PATH>/AST01/PDFs/Economic_costs_of_DV.pdf http://www.adfvc.unsw.edu.au/PDF%20files/Economic_costs_of_DV.pdfen
