Prepared for consultations for the World Conference Against Racism<br/ >This is a report from the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) that looks at “intersectionality” which seeks to interpret both the structural and dynamic consequences of the interaction between two or more forms of discrimination or systemic subordination. Specifically, it addresses the difficulties of race and gender intersectionality, where gender discrimination often confuses a case of racial discrimination and vice versa, creating further layers of discrimination. Discusses the way in which different forms of discrimination overlap to create layers of inequality that in turn affect the relative positions of individual people and groups. It further examines how the intersection of different forms of discrimination and subordination, on a practical and policy level, can further create a dynamic of disempowerment.en
