dc.description.notes | "Support for this project was received from the Law Foundation of NSW" - cover<br/ >Report describes the Aboriginal Women's Family Violence Protection Project, a joint initiative of Goorie Galbans (an Aboriginal women's service based in Kempsey covering the whole Macleay region) and the Indigenous Women's Program conducted by Women's Legal Resources Centre (a state-wide community legal centre for women). The Kempsey-based project delivered workshops incorporating community legal education and consultation with Aboriginal women and service providers in the region to enhance the support and legal system's responses to women experiencing family violence. Discusses outcomes of the project, which included breaking the silence surrounding domestic violence, enhancing Aboriginal women's knowledge about their legal options and rights as well as available support services, identifying barriers to protection and action required to improve services and responses in the Macleay Valley region. Emphasises the importance of working cooperatively with local Aboriginal services and working actively to address issues identified by Aboriginal women themselves. | en |
