Executive summary of a major research project which examined the needs of women, men and young people experiencing domestic violence in South Australia. The purpose of the study was to inform the design/implementation of effective strategies and interventions to prevent domestic violence. The study collected qualitative data using a multi method approach including phone-ins, focus groups, interviews with service providers to marginalised groups and networking with various communities. Findings suggest it is time to review domestic violence theories and intervention in the light of new knowledge and current challenges identified by this research. New approaches are needed which respond effectively to the needs of children and young people and people from many marginalised groups.
