For more information see "Parents Accepting Responsibility - Kids Are Safe (PARKAS)" on our Good Practice Database.<br/ >Parents Accepting Responsibility-Kids are Safe (PARKAS) was one of seven organisations funded under the Partnerships Against Domestic Violence initiative through the Victorian Department of Human Services to document good practice in the 'Supporting Children and Young People affected by Family Violence Project'. Combined a community health and child and adolescent mental health service to offer a psycho-dynamic and systemic group work programme for children aged 8-12 and their mothers. Separate groups conducted by the same leaders. Aim is to create a psychologically safe space for children to begin to acknowledge and process their pain, loss and grief and to assist them to re-connect with their mother/carer around what has been a shared experience of trauma while also recognising that these children may still feel strong attachments towards the perpetrators of violence. Does not prohibit the inclusion of children who still reside in families where there is known to be some risk of ongoing violence.en
