Notes: | General Overview:This report, commissioned by the Australian Attorney General’s Department, examines the impact of family violence on decisions made after the separation of parents. The report is based on an analysis of the responses of 1100 adults and children. These were collected via internet surveys and telephone questionnaires. The report found that the existence of family violence, whether current or historical, affected the decisions people made about accessing courts and dispute resolution services, the decisions made when utilising these services and the decisions made about post-separation parenting arrangements. The impact of family violence on decision making was often unexpected, unsatisfactory and endless. The adult participants surveyed thought that the family law legal services system was not adequately designed to deal with the problems and complexities of family violence. |
