The manual begins with the definitions, facts and figures regarding domestic violence, and provides information about the identification of and response to violence, and child abuse and neglect. The indicators and risk factors for family violence are discussed and outlined, and a guide to communicating with clients provided. The manual provides and discusses guides and tools for assessment, and instructions given for their use and interpretation. An overview and discussion of consultation and collaboration with other health workers or agencies is augmented by an extensive list and examples of documentation.<br/ ><br/ >The manual includes discussion of issues surrounding the perpetrators of family violence, including communication with and responses to perpetrators, and possible actions. Specific groups of people, such as Aboriginal people, those living in remote areas, older people and people with a disability, are discussed separately.
