| dc.description.notes | This reports on the Integrated Response to Domestic Violence by the Criminal Justice System and Support Agencies – Dubbo (IRDV) Project, which was funded by the Commonwealth Partnerships Against Domestic Violence (PADV) and managed by the NSW Violence Against Women’s Specialist Unit (VAW Unit). The Project was designed to develop a model for an integrated response to domestic violence by the criminal justice system and support agencies in Dubbo, NSW. It documents the key steps needed for the basis of an integrated response to domestic violence. Part 2 examines models in other locations in Australia and overseas through a literature review that explores concepts of ‘integration’ and ‘collaboration’. Key models operating in Duluth (Minnesota US) and Hamilton (New Zealand) are identified. Focus groups identified gaps and problems with service delivery, particularly experienced by Aboriginal women (Part 3). A survey was conducted with a range of services to identify understanding of domestic violence and awareness levels, with the results utilised for designing a training programme (Part 4). Part 4 also sets out the training programme designed for the ‘new service provision’ models (the ‘On-Call’ service and the police ‘sticker’ referral system) which were implemented. Part 5 describes the trial of new models of service delivery as ‘crisis’ service provision was needed to help women from the point of first contact (such as the NSW Police or Dubbo Base Hospital) to have contact with specialist domestic violence services. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was finalised and signed by a range of agencies in October 2002, which included interagency guidelines and protocols (Part 6 and Appendix 1). | en |
