This final report presents findings from the review of the Western Australian Regional Family and Domestic Violence Committees (RDVCs). Key themes from the literature on coordinated responses are summarised. Legislative and policy contexts are provided, along with an overview of the various coordinated responses to family and domestic violence in the regions.<br/ ><br/ >* There is in principle support for regional coordination models for increasing the safety of women and children experiencing family violence. However, there is concern that the model may include inconsistent agency participation, limited funding and regional boundaries. <br/ >* With regard to shared philosophies and understandings, some suggested a need to broaden the model’s purpose to include men as victims of family violence. Others expressed concern that this may overlook research that shows the gendered nature of domestic violence. <br/ >* Impact of factors like agency participation, regional boundaries, funding and lack of monitoring and evaluation processes, made it difficult to assess whether the current RDVC model is the most effective method to increase the safety of women and children. <br/ >Key recommendations include that there should be continued funding for the purpose of regional coordination as a strategy to improve the safety of women and children affected by family violence. The review identifies a need for change to the funding arrangements to ensure that regional coordination models can achieve more coordinated and integrated agency responses. As a priority, a new structure is recommended to be called the Regional Coordination Reponses to Family and Domestic Violence (RCRFDV), which aims to achieve a stronger coordinated agency response to people experiencing domestic and family violence. The purpose of the RCRFDV is recommended to align with the State Strategic Plan’s priority area of ‘provision’. The new model will focus on service providers and strengthen agency cooperation and accountability, and will encourage all regions to consider alternative models that can be better suited to local needs. Recommended funding and annual budget for the regions are also provided.en
