Notes:  Based on a year-long investigation in the US, this report draws together existing knowledge regarding the causes, consequences and incidence of domestic violence and various strategies employed to address and/or prevent it. A number of challenges presented by the findings of the research is identified, including the need for greater focus on preventative measures and on the needs of children and adolescents exposed to domestic violence. Some examples of innovative approaches adopted by agencies to address these issues are then provided and recommendations for future policy, practice and research in the areas of young parents, serious offenders, young adolescents and youth in transition between foster care and incarceration are provided. Some more general preventative strategies are also suggested.
