Recognising domestic violence and abuse in Indigenous communities as a key issue in the move towards reconciliation, this chapter outlines recent practice and policy responses to Indigenous family violence, including the Partnerships Against Domestic Violence initiative and the Indigenous Family Violence Grants Programme. The importance of nationally coordinated, holistic responses which focus on long-term solutions, encourage self-determination, and the realisation of cultural rights are emphasised, and some criticisms of current approaches are raised.
