Notes: | Discusses the value and sustainability of programmes for male perpetrators of domestic and family violence with reference to the Gold Coast Domestic Violence Integrated Response programme, currently being evaluated. Outlines the background structure and functions of the programme and identifies key agencies involved in this coordinated response to intimate violence. Suggests that while poorly implemented programmes for perpetrators can be damaging to women and children’s safety, an adequate response to the issue demands involvement with both parties. Argues that if perpetrator programmes are to be implemented in a way that prioritises women and children’s safety, women’s services must be key players in the development, provision and monitoring of these services and programmes must be integrated into a broader community strategy to reduce violence. |
