Notes:	This paper sets out the process for solicitors preparing a domestic violence hearing in Queensland with regard to focusing on the client’s safety and the safety of any children or others in the context of applying for a protection order. It explains about the making of an application under the Domestic Violence (Family Protection) Act:1989. It sets out the legislative sections for conditions of a domestic violence order. It refers to the legislative sections on the obligation of the applicant to disclose the existence of any family contact order or application for a family contact order. Ouster orders are explained with examples of different scenarios. Temporary orders, variation or revocation of a protection order are also explained. Limitations or restrictions on revocation or variation are summarised including with reference to the relevant caselaw. For obtaining a final protection order, evidentiary provisions are explained, including relevant caselaw. Tips for evidence are provided, such as the issuing of summonses for witnesses or sources of documents, and examples are given. Procedure for giving evidence is outlined. Final submissions are covered. Information is briefly given on the dismissal of applications. It also includes tips and advice for advocates or solicitors on how to interview clients, represent them in protection order cases, assist with the enforcement of protection orders and ensure their safety and safety of any children or others through safety planning guidelines taken from the US and American Bar Association.
