This speech, presented at the Refugee Women’s Conference by the chair of the Association of Non-English Speaking Women in Australia (ANESBWA), explains the role of ANESBWA and raises key issues faced by refugee and immigrant women who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence. Particular emphasis is placed on the needs of NESB women during the settlement process, such as difficulty obtaining residency. Specific problems with service provision in this area are highlighted and suggestions made for future reform.
