Title: Barriers to support for lesbians in abusive relationships
Other Titles: Out of Limbo : First National Conference on Violence in Lesbian Relationsh[cut]
Authors: Bennet, Wendy
Keywords: Gay/lesbian/transgender
Year: 1997
Publisher: Out of Limbo
Notes:  The author discusses the importance of publicly acknowledging that women can be and are violent towards other women. The presence of abuse in intra-lesbian relationships has been hidden to prevent further ‘lesbiophobia’ and misconceptions of the actual problem. However, ignoring the issue denies the experiences of abused women and the possibility of creating suitable resources. Some of the myths surrounding domestic violence in lesbian relationships, its implications and how the violent partner exploits them are mentioned. The inappropriate responses that lesbian women have found when accessing services available are also exposed.
