Notes:  This paper discusses the work performed by the Women’s Health Goulburn North East in Victoria’s Hume region on the topic of community education and family violence. Women and children who experience family violence in rural communities face: isolation and alienation derived from long distances, which separates them from services; lack of funding; and certain aspects of the rural culture. In order to raise community awareness, the Week Without Violence was launched locally and across the State. The positive outcomes and some adverse repercussions that occurred in one town are discussed.
