EAPU is a Queensland service that addresses elder abuse through various strategies such as a helpline, research, legislative input, training, community awareness and coordination of services. A case study that involved the misuse of enduring power of attorney is narrated to emphasise the importance of determining a person’s capacity. A number of suggestions for assisting older people to protect themselves from financial abuse is proposed.
