Notes: | Describes the implications of the contact between women and their children and the violent parent after separation. Even though parent/child contact could be unsafe, in most cases the continuation of the relationship is required by legislation and court decisions. In order to minimise the risks, supervised parent/child contact services have been developed. The article discusses the definition of contact, access or visitation and the different circumstances in which it occurs both in Australia and in overseas countries where contact services have been established. Police involvement and the roles and limitations of the supervised contact services are also mentioned. |
