Notes: | Explores the role of police in domestic violence and child protection issues. The data were obtained through the observation of intake practices at offices of the NSW Department of Community Services and interviews with practitioners working with the abused women and children. The study reveals that the most frequent referrals of children at risk were due to domestic violence, and the police were the highest group of notifiers. Interviews with police officers reveal the problems they confront when children are present in situations of domestic violence. Practitioners’ views about the police responses to domestic violence are also explored. |
