This paper describes the development of a model of clinical practice with children, young people and their families, where the effects of sexual assault and domestic violence are presenting difficulties. The Wentworth Area Health, Violence, Abuse and Neglect Prevention Services have been endeavouring to develop a ‘joint work model’ between the co-located Sexual Assault Service and the Physical Abuse and Neglect of Children (PANOC) Service. The challenges in finding the common ground are described, as well as the knowledge gained along the way, which is shaping the service and may assist other services considering this direction.
