Notes:	Overview: In this conference presentation, Salthouse examines the status of women and girls with disabilities and how their lives intersect with the disturbingly high incidence of domestic violence suffered by women throughout the world, generally, and in Australia, particularly. Discussion: The paper explores issues of violence from a human rights perspective, arguing that that freedom from domestic violence is a human right and concluding that, despite numerous international conventions and declarations, women with disabilities are deprived of that right. In the case of Australia, commitment to CEDAW, the United Nations’ Convention on the Elimination of (All Forms of) Discrimination Against Women, has not benefited women with disabilities. State, territory and Commonwealth governments have fallen short in their duty to protect disabled women. The author advocates changes to the legal system, including the establishment of specialist domestic violence courts in all jurisdictions and a broadening of the definition of ‘partner violence’ to include the greater range of personal relationships in a disabled woman’s ‘household’. * mental health supports.
