Notes: | Describes the state of affairs endured by East Timorese women as a consequence of the Indonesian occupation. The concerns discussed in this paper were raised in the Congress for East Timorese Women held in June 2000, and encompass gender-based violence, patriarchy, poverty, health, education, housing, repatriation and reconciliation, and justice. The authors explore the systems available to help women in recovery. These include the family, the Catholic Church, the clandestine movement, Falantil ‘magic’ and international aid. |
