Title: The right research in the right way: is it possible? Lessons learned from undertaking sensitive research in a multicultural environment
Other Titles: Expanding our horizons : understanding the complexities of violence agains[cut]
Authors: Papadopoulos, Colleen
Keywords: CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse)
Year: 2002
Publisher: Australian Domestic & Family Violence Clearinghouse, UNSW
Notes:  This paper is divided in two parts. The first one describes the development of a research methodology for a study that involved migrant families experiencing domestic violence, and the decision to re-negotiate the research outcome because the expected outcome could not be reached. Three ‘lessons learned’ from this experience comprise the second part. The lessons discussed are: failure to recognise the research team and its objectives as discrete from the research project itself; failure to apply the right method to the participant environment; and failure to accommodate the research team’s need to focus on underpinning motive, rather than methods development.
