Notes:	General Overview: At this Australian conference Chief Magistrate, Marshall Irwin, looked at the response of the courts in Queensland to domestic violence over the past 10 years. His paper then suggested future directions for the courts, including a dedicated domestic and family violence jurisdiction offering a one stop shop. Discussion: The paper discusses available statistics about the prevalence of domestic violence in Australia and amongst cases coming before the courts, to demonstrate the significance of the issue. The paper points to the sensitive and emotional impacts for participants in cases before the courts and details some of the responses taken by courts to address these impacts. They include providing: * counselling for male respondents, addressing communication, violence and behavioural issues, and The paper advocates the establishment of a specialist domestic and family violence jurisdiction, that adopts a problem solving approach.
