Notes:  General Overview: In 2009, the Benevolent Society in NSW commissioned a research project examining the experiences of women who have left a family violence situation and the staff who work with them. This report presents the findings of the literature review and qualitative research.

The report presents the findings of the literature review, provides an overview of the current research and theory surrounding issues, such as health, parenting, support and experiences of rural and other diverse women. The methodology of the report is outlined and the results discussed in detail. The ability of the women to ‘move forward’ is discussed in the context of barriers faced and support they received, as well as the continuing internal and family impact of the violence. In the conclusion, the report discusses the implications of the findings for policy and practice.
