Notes:	Overview: This Australian paper from New South Wales (NSW) provides an update of a 1996 briefing paper examining the defences of provocation and self defence in the context of homicides involving intimate partners and response to homosexual advances. Discussion: The paper describes the defences at court and their use in 1996. It provides recent data on intimate partner homicides, recent data on the use of defences in NSW and other jurisdictions, examples of successful provocation defences, and law reform in NSW and other Australian jurisdictions and other countries. It provides conclusions about changes in law relating to these defences in different jurisdictions, introduced since 1996 when the previous briefing paper was released.
