Notes:	General Overview: :This report outlines the prevalence of violence against women in the United Kingdom (UK), identifies the gaps in governments’ responses to this violence and describes an integrated strategy to respond to and prevent violence against women. They detail the inadequacies of the current UK approach. Most government departments have not adopted the UN definitions of violence, meaning there is no coherent perspective. Policies on violence are often gender neutral. Prevention is not well addressed in schools, highly sexualised popular culture undermines gender equality and perpetrator work is confined to criminal justice mandated entry. The provision of services is uneven and inadequate, particularly for rural women and Black Minority Ethnic (BME) women. Prosecution is the strongest aspect of the UK system, with the prosecution service adopting a ‘violence against women’ strategy and enhancements to the criminal justice processes. Access to civil protection orders is inadequate because of legislative limitations and the reduction of legal aid. The report includes detailed proposals for an integrated strategy.
