Notes: | Discussion: :This report outlines results of the Safety and Accountability Audit of the Armadale Domestic Violence Intervention Project (ADVIP). The Audit was conducted by a cross-agency and cross-sectoral Audit Team, and proceeded through five phases: preparation, information gathering, information analysis, making recommendations for change and reporting. The Audit based on the framework and methodology developed for the Duluth, US program (Praxis Safety and Accountability Audit Tool Kit), and centralised the issue of victim safety and offender accountability within its investigation of processes and systems integral to the operation of the ADVIP. Examination of factors impeding safety of children, in particular those emerging from the integration of child protection and domestic violence responses, are highlighted. The report found five problem areas: information collection and sharing, interventions which hold victims responsible for safety, practitioner accountability in case-processing, theories and assumptions of practitioners, project focus on individual rather than systemic and cross-agency issues. Recommendations within the report focus on improvements in these areas. The report provides a framework for developing a strong and effective integrated response to domestic violence, with potential for statewide implementation, by building on the strengths of the ADVIP while developing new methods for ensuring the prioritising of victim safety. |
