Notes:	The Second Action Plan 2012-15 of the National Framework for Protecting Australia's Children 2009–2020:underlines the importance of addressing the gap between the needs of children and the needs of parents with mental health, homelessness, addiction or family violence problems in Australia's child and family service systems. To this end, the Second Action Plan 2012-15:introduced the "Child Aware Approaches" initiative as an early intervention and prevention program. This initiative seeks to mobilise actions at a local level from a framework of shared responsibility to keep children safe and well. This guide to child aware approaches explains the purpose and importance of the initiative and details the ten principles on which it is based. Importantly, case studies from 17 organisations including Anglicare WA, Salvation Army Tasmania, Berry Street Northern Family & Domestic Violence Service, Bravehearts Inc. and UnitingCare Wesley Country SA are used to show how the principles can be applied to practice. This resource has been produced for service managers and practitioners working with at-risk children and families, especially those working in adult-focused services.
