| dc.description.notes | Provides an overview of the various kinds of restorative justice approaches in the juvenile and criminal justice context primarily in Australia and New Zealand and identifies some of the key features of these approaches that distinguish them from other, more mainstream responses. Evidence on the effectiveness of restorative justice approaches and their effects on victims and offenders is also reviewed. The presentation goes on, in the second part, to explore some of the problems and potential benefits associated with applying a restorative justice model to gendered and sexualised violence, and presents the findings of a study conducted by the author into the relative performance of courts and conferences in handling sexual offences. It is suggested that the application of restorative justice models in cases of gendered and sexual violence may encourage, rather than impede, perpetrator accountability and rehabilitation. | en |
