Abstract:  Disabled and/or chronically ill people experience significantly higher rates of sexual and intimate partner violence (SV/IPV) than those without disabilities or chronic illnesses, with risks further exacerbated by intersectional identities such as being queer or women. Despite extensive research highlighting these disparities, the experiences and voices of disabled and chronically ill survivors are often minimised or overlooked in discussions about SV/IPV. This chapter uses an intersectional feminist framework to explore forms of harm, key terminology, and current knowledge on the relationship between disability, chronic illness, and SV/IPV. It provides practical considerations for working with disabled and/or chronically ill survivors, shares a classroom activity idea, and concludes with recommendations and resources.
