Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant public health problem affecting women, men, and children across the United States. Batterer intervention programs (BIPs) serve as the primary intervention for men who use violence, employing three main modalities: psychoeducation, cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT), and group therapy such as alcohol or drug treatment. However, research indicates limited effectiveness of these approaches, partially due to their theoretical underpinnings. This article assesses current modalities and advocates for a paradigm shift to incorporate trauma-informed care principles. Experiences of childhood adversity and trauma are strongly linked to violence perpetration and other negative outcomes. Integrating trauma-focused interventions into programming for IPV perpetrators is proposed as a promising alternative. The article discusses the practice, policy, and research implications of trauma-informed approaches in addressing IPV.en_US
