dc.description.abstract | This meta-analytical review examines the effectiveness of batterer intervention programs (BIPs) by analyzing 25 studies, representing 62 effect sizes and a total sample of 20,860 individuals. The findings indicate that BIPs have a significant but variable impact on recidivism rates, with effectiveness dependent on the method of measurement and program type. While official records suggest a reduction in recidivism, partner reports indicate no significant effect. Cognitive-behavioral treatment programs (CBTPs) showed greater effectiveness compared to the Duluth model, which in some cases was associated with increased recidivism. Short interventions were found to be ineffective and potentially harmful, whereas longer interventions demonstrated positive outcomes. The review highlights the importance of follow-up duration in evaluating program efficacy and the need for continued refinement of intervention approaches. | en_US |
