Notes:  Reviews some of the existing literature on the incidence, prevalence, forms and nature of violence between same-sex couples and outlines some of the factors identified as contributing to partner abuse in same-sex relationships, such as substance abuse and previous history of violence. Power differentials highlighted by feminist theories of intimate violence are discussed and, whilst it is acknowledged that such models have tended to focus exclusively on heterosexual violence, the value of feminist contributions and the parallels that might be drawn between heterosexual and homosexual intimate violence are emphasised. Further research into potential correlating factors such as dependency, internalised homophobia and personality disorders is advocated.
