Notes: | The identification of the most dangerous perpetrators of domestic violence has been central in recent research. Abusive incidents are categorised to predict reabuse and reaussault among batterers. This study argues that prediction research has been unable to actually predict violence because of methodology weaknesses. The authors examined the narratives of domestic violence incidents to expose the need for further categorisations and identify inconsistencies between tactics-based and account-based categorisations. The female partners of men attending batterers programmes in four cities in the United States were periodically interviewed for a period of 15 months. The findings revealed that tactic-based outcome categories do not necessarily represent persistent abuse and assault. |
