Notes: | Discusses the various phases through which the Te Rito project, a New Zealand government initiative aimed at the prevention and reduction of family violence, was developed and outlines some of the major challenges faced by both government and non-government agencies throughout the course of the project. With respect to government agencies, resource, time and practical constraints, political dynamics, distrust, community involvement in policy development and diversity of perspectives were identified as key issues. Non-government agencies identified differences in priorities for intervention, ensuring adequate representation and the need for consultation and collaboration between various interest groups as central concerns. Suggests that while barriers to an integration of services still exist, the Te Rito project demonstrates solutions to current problems can be found. |
