Notes:  This journal article responds to an article by Stuart et al. which supports a hypothesis that domestic violence perpetrators who receive brief alcohol-related intervention as well as a 40-hour group batterer program will engage in less frequent and heavy alcohol consumption and less aggressive or violent behaviour. This article endorses the well-known association between drug and/or alcohol misuse and incidents of domestic violence, therefore emphasising the need for improved and increased interventions.

Day identifies varied perspectives on which are the most effective intervention methods and styles, including motivational interviewing, psycho-educational and psychotherapeutic approaches. Day concludes with a reflection on Stuart et al.’s perspective, which foregrounds the importance of collaborative and client-centred interventions.
