Notes:	This article discusses the study on what victim advocates in South Australia and Queensland think about restorative justice in the context of gendered violence. The study’s methodology is outlined, which consists of interviews in Queensland and South Australia, archival analysis of nearly 400 sexual offence cases dealt with through the courts and conferences during 6? years in South Australia, and detailed analysis of 15 conferences of sexual assault and domestic violence in South Australia. It finds that although victim advocates have concerns about restorative justice, some saw positive aspects. A literature review including international literature of the debate concerning the use of alternatives to the criminal justice response to address violence against women is also provided. It concludes that criminal and restorative justice need not be treated mutually exclusive as ‘either/or’, and the way forward is to recognise the potential and the limitations of each form of justice in order to develop policy and practice that will be responsive to the needs identified by victims and advocates.
