Notes: | Proposes a model of abuse assessment for women with disabilities that recognises the unique forms of abuse disabled women experience and the range of contextual factors which may contribute to their experiences and vulnerability to violence. Conducts a review of literature and research into disability, abuse and functional assessment, using this as a foundation for the development of the assessment model. Proposes an assessment process comprising three major components – traditional evaluation based on the DAIP Power and Control Wheel, functional capacity risk and abuse assessment based on self report and heterogeneity assessment whereby modifications to assessment are made on the basis of cultural sensitivity, nature of disability and reporting structures. It is suggested that future research efforts should work towards the testing and development of the model protocol. |
