Contrasts the cases of Heather Osland, David Albion and Said Morgan, arguing that while all involved retaliatory private violence of some kind, the actions of the defendant in the latter cases were viewed as reasonable by the court because they were those of a male provoked to defend his family while the actions of the former were irrational because they were those of a battered woman. Discusses some the ways in which the legal system stereotypes and discriminates against women who kill and suggests that gender constructions are indeed integral to understanding intimate homicide as an act of self defence.
