Notes:  This report presents the findings of a worldwide systematic review of scientific data on the prevalence of both violence by an intimate partner (intimate partner violence) and sexual violence by someone other than a partner (non-partner sexual violence). Biomedical and social science databases were searched for studies published between 1998 and 2010. A search was also made of international surveys on violence against women or surveys which included questions about non-partner sexual violence. Women aged 15 years and older were included and only studies using primary data from population surveys was used.

A section on health effects discusses data on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, alcohol misuse, depression and suicide, fatal and non-fatal injuries, induced abortion and prematurity and low birth weight.

A brief summary of the report may also be accessed.
