Authors: NSW Child Death Review Team
Keywords: Statistics;Homicide;Impact on children and young people
Year: 2008
Publisher: NSW Commission for Children and Young People, Surry Hills
Notes:  The purpose of the New South Wales Child Death Review Team (CDRT, the Team) is to provide information about child deaths and to prevent or reduce the number of deaths in New South Wales of children and young people from birth to 17 years of age.

From January to December 2007, the deaths of 601 children and young people aged 0-17 years were registered in New South Wales.
Chapter 9 deals with assault as the cause of death. During 2007 nine children and young people died as a result of assault. Six of the assaults occurred in the context of familial relationships: that is, where the injuries were inflicted by parents, spouses, domestic partners or other family members. Two deaths occurred in the context of non-familial relationships and one where there was insufficient information available to determine the relationship of the child to the perpetrator.
