Notes:  Overview: This joint policy report between two anti-violence coalitions based in the United States addresses the pervasive violence committed against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer [LGBTQ] people both within their communities and relationships, and outside of them. Based on results of a survey, this report examines the gaps in the victims' services for LGBTQ people and suggests ways in which to address these gaps in necessary services.

The results of this survey are presented in the report. The survey demonstrated that LGBTQ victims of violence did not have consistent access to culturally appropriate services. Too often, non-LGBTQ specific victim assistance agencies cannot meet the needs of LGBTQ crime victims and specific targeted services lack resources and funding.

In order to address these gaps in victim support for LGBTQ people, the report makes recommendations for: greater collaboration amongst LGBTQ anti-violence programs and non-LGBTQ anti-violence programs; the provision of training for those in non-LGBTQ anti-violence programs in LGBTQ specific support; policy and legislative change ensuring equality; Increasing public awareness about the extent and impact of violence and victimisation on LGBTQ individuals; and an increase state and federal funding for services, training and research on the victimisation of LGBTQ people.
