Overview: This literature review from the United Kingdom aims to provide an evidence base for the delivery of an action plan by the National Strategy to Address Domestic Abuse in Scotland.

Discussion: The literature review encompasses international and Scottish evidence to support directions for good practice around dealing with children and young people affected by domestic violence, and includes evidence from the perspectives of children and young people. * Chapter Two discusses the research evidence regarding children and young people affected by domestic violence, including prevalence of violence, risks and impacts of this behaviour for children and young people, and its impact on the mother and child relationship
* Chapter Three discusses children and young people’s perspectives of domestic abuse, of the perpetrators, on what helps, availability of professional help, as well as directions in good practice
* Chapter Four discusses pathways to protection , including a focus on perpetrators, links between protecting mothers and child protection, and directions in good practice
* Chapter Five discusses provision of services and supports for children, young people and mothers, including websites and helplines, and directions for good practice
* Chapter Six discusses the delivery of primary prevention of domestic violence through education, including information on the legal and policy contexts, and directions for good practice.
